What is special about the leading international fair Christmasworld? Jutta Baumann: Christmasworld – The World of Event Decoration – is the world’s leading fair for party and festive decorations. From 30 January to 3 February 2009, right on cue for the new trading season, exhibitors will be presenting the year’s festival and party trends and innovations, from Christmas tree ornaments and Easter decorations, candles and florists’ supplies to partyware and fireworks. No other fair has such a wide range of festive products as Christmasworld, both in terms of breadth and depth.
What response have you had from fair exhibitors and visitors? Jutta Baumann: the mood at the last Christmasworld was extremely upbeat. We welcomed around 31,000 trade visitors, 95 percent of whom were either satisfied or extremely satisfied with the event. We recorded a high level of internationalism in terms of visitors and exhibitors alike. Fifty-seven percent of visitors came to Frankfurt from abroad. A total of 1,065 exhibitors, 739 foreign and 326 German companies, presented new products.
These figures indicate that the fair is building on the success of previous years. It’s very gratifying to see the fair increasing in size every year, in terms of display area. In the past five years, net area has risen by about 4,500 square metres to 51,600 square metres.
Will you be changing the concept for Christmasworld 2009? Christmasworld presents products for every festival and celebration of the year. We have redefined our product groups for 2009 in order to reflect this more in the orientation of the fair. Annual and seasonal decorations, partyware and festive goods, fireworks, party lights, giftwrap and ribbons, florists’ supplies, candles, fragrances, shop & display and, of course, Christmas decorations give visitors orientation.
What highlights do you have planned for 2009? Jutta Baumann: the trend show staged by style agency bora.herke will feature the tone-setting colours, materials and textures for 2009/2010, which makes the trend show an important tool for the trade. In addition, each year Messe Frankfurt invites a different country to present traditional festivals from their homeland at the ‘The spirit of celebration’ show. At the next Christmasworld, visitors can enjoy the US festivals of Halloween and Valentine's Day.
In previous years, these special shows have proved extremely popular with visitors. In 2008, Sweden presented the two festivals of ‘Midsommar’ and ‘Sankta Lucia’ and the year before, Valencia presented the spectacular festival of Las Fallas. The competition we hold every year to accompany the guest nation presentation is a particular highlight. Prizewinners travel to that year’s guest nation to experience on the spot a festival typical of that country. So the destination for 2009 has already been decided – it’s off to the USA!
Is Christmasworld still being held at the same time as Paperworld and Beautyworld? Jutta Baumann: In 2009, all three fairs will again be held simultaneously, although the schedule, in terms of days of the week, has been changed for optimisation purposes. As a result, Christmasworld will now open from Friday, 30 January 2009 to Tuesday, 3 February 2009, which means that exhibitors will continue to show their products over a period of five peak event days. The duration of Paperworld has been shortened by one day and the event will now be taking place from 31st January to 3 February. This will allow exhibitors and visitors alike to continue to benefit from the powerful synergy generated by Paperworld, the world of office and paper products.
Closer to Beautyworld in terms of theme, the Hair and Beauty trade fair for the hairdressing trade and hair cosmetics industry, will be open to visitors on new dates, namely 1 and 2 February 2009.
