The Premium business programme at Christmasworld in Frankfurt: top keynote speakers and networking opportunities to put you ahead on the knowledge front

Nov 16, 2017

Spectacular decorations and displays for seasonal occasions enable shopping centres, retailers, towns and municipalities to inspire their visitors and customers. The Premium business programme will present what is possible and necessary for this in the future, in an event format spanning several days.

Premium will be bringing together international sector experts on concept decorations in commercial enterprises, shopping centres, municipalities and urban spaces, as well as innovative designers and decoration agencies, at Christmasworld in Frankfurt am Main (26 to 30 January 2018). The exclusive sector meeting place, with top-class lectures, workshops, guided tours of the fair, and opportunities for international networking, will be taking place in the Premium Lounge in Hall 11.0 – with direct access to the product world of the leading international trade fair for festive and seasonal decorations, which includes lighting innovations and trends.

Three theme days with visionary keynote speeches and an exciting awards ceremony

Friday, 26 January 2018, has as its theme 'Commercial properties, shopping centres and retail outlets'. The keynote speaker on this day will be Steven Van Bellegham, one of the most radical forward thinkers on the transformation process in modern customer relations. His lecture will centre around his book 'Customers the day after tomorrow', due to be published in December 2017.

Monday, 29 January 2018, is being organised by the German Federal Association for City and Town Marketing (Bundesvereinigung City- und Stadtmarketing Deutschland e. V. – bcsd) and its theme is 'Urban marketing and municipalities'. Andreas Reiter, founder of the ZTB Zukunftsbüro in Vienna and lecturer in trend and innovations management, knows "what is coming". In his keynote speech, 'City Whispering', he will explain what the urban landscape of the future will look like. The practice-oriented lecture and workshop will also tackle the role of politics, economic activity, and the use of social media.

The awards ceremony for the 'Best Christmas City' will mark the formal end to the day. The online competition, organised by Christmasworld, the bcsd, and the trade journal Public Marketing, is aimed at increasing customer numbers in towns and retail shops during the Advent period. The winners with the most beautiful and Christmassy town decorations last year were: Rüdesheim am Rhein (winner of the public vote) and Triberg im Schwarzwald, Freiberg and Potsdam (winners chosen by the expert panel). A total of 49 towns and cities took part in the third staging of the competition.

The starting date for the 2018 applications is 1 November 2017. All towns in Germany will then have until 7 December 2017, to submit their concept online at, with expressive photos, videos and texts. This time the competition is looking for a trading concept that brings together retailers, restaurants and hotels, as well as other economic and social partners, thus attracting local residents and tourists into town centres.

Up till 9 January 2018, the general public can vote online for the most beautiful and Christmassy town in Germany. The public prize will go to the town that has collected the most online votes by the beginning of January. They will win a professional 'Christmas market check' by the Association for Marketing and Sales Research (Gesellschaft für Markt- und Absatzforschung - GMA). In addition, an expert panel will decide which are the best submissions in the Small, Medium and Large Town categories (small town: less than 20,000 inhabitants, medium-sized town: 20,000 – 100,000 inhabitants, large town: more than 100,000 inhabitants).

The three winners chosen by the expert panel in the Small, Medium and Large Town categories will be announced at the awards ceremony, from 13.00 hrs on 29 January 2018. The presentation is taking place as part of the Premium business programme. The urban marketing theme day is being organised for this on the Monday of the fair by Christmasworld and the bcsd. Christmasworld exhibitors, MK Illumination, will provide high-quality town decorations for the next season as prizes for the three winning towns.

On Tuesday, 30 January 2018, it will be all about 'Shopfitting and Retail'. The theme day will shed light on the future of the stationary retail trade, with a programme of lectures and a thematic tour of the fair. The keynote speaker on this day will be Dominik Brokelmann, CEO of the Brodos Group, who have been successfully putting into practice the concept of interlinking offline and online retail since 2015. In his lecture, 'The networked retail store', we will be talking about how stationary shops can win the battle of the retail channels.

At the fair (and in the online exhibitor search), these suppliers can be specifically identified by the 'Concept Decorations' logo. Those who wish to make a personal appointment in advance with top international exhibitors of large-scale and public decorations can also use the 'matchmaking service': simply specify the desired exhibitor or exhibitors when registering for the Premium programme.
