In 1993 the Mechanische Musikwerke Manufaktur (MMM) was founded by brothers Jens and Jörg Wendel in the redwine-village Rüdesheim-Assmannshausen. Because of the needs of the family´s own museum, „Siegfried´s Mechanisches Musikkabinett“ (first german museum for mechanical instruments), in the beginning they concentrated on the building and restauration of Orchestrions. In the first year the opportunity was offert to them to work with the original tools of the „Karl Griesbaum KG“ from the blackforest to build mechanical singingbirds and piperfigurines.
In 1993 the first musicbox-centered retail store was opened in the tourist-metropole of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Because the selection of musicboxes on the european market was very limited, the first imports from the far east were organized. The quantities you had to buy of of each product was too much for the store in Rüdesheim though, and even the founding of a wholesale-company covering all of germany was not enough.
So very early, even before the euro was introducted, we had comstumers in all parts of europe.
Today the MMM GmbH is world‘s market leader oncerning the sale of musicboxes, with daughter-companies in the USA and Italy as well as costumers from all around the world.
