Description

Recycling paper

Wrapping papers all-natural for sustainable consumption
Our kraft and recycled papers all bear the
Blue Angel and are made
from 100% recovered form. This uses about 70% less water and 60%

less energy compared to virgin fiber paper production. The Federal

Environment Agency's eco-label also guarantees that no harmful

chemicals or optical brighteners are added to the papers during

production. The degree of whiteness is between

60% and 90%.

grass paper

Grass paper – an alternative and sustainable raw material

In addition to the classic cellulose fibres, grass fibres have also been used as the basis for our gift packaging since 2019. As a rapidly renewable and domestic raw material, grass is a great alternative to classic “wood paper”.

How is grass paper made?

The grass fibres needed for production come from compensation areas. These are areas that have to be created as ecological compensation in construction projects in order to preserve and create habitats for animals and plants . After harvesting, the grass is dried, cleaned and ground to be compressed into pellets and taken to the nearby paper mill for further processing. To ensure the stability of the paper, classic wood fibres are added. Gift wrappings from ZOEWIE, for example, consist of 40% grass paper and 60% recycled waste paper.

Is grass paper a sustainable alternative?

The regional cultivation of grass paper ensures short transport routes and thus a lower CO2 impact. The cultivation on compensation areas does not claim any habitat, but leads to the creation of the same. Because the grass grows back quickly, it can be harvested several times a year. Energy and water consumption is also significantly lower compared to virgin fibre paper.

Where can I dispose of grass paper?

Grass paper can be disposed of in the normal paper bin. It is recyclable and can be reintroduced into the material cycle to produce recovered paper. Did you know that our gift packaging is marked with the Grüner Punkt and the Resy label?

sugar cane paper

Sugar cane paper – how waste is turned into wrapping paper

Wrapping paper made from waste? Is that possible? Yes! In 2021, we launched a wrapping paper made from waste from sugar production for the first time. Our upcycled paper made from rapidly renewable raw materials is thus a real alternative to classic “wood paper”. And guaranteed 100% tree-free.

How is sugar cane paper made?

The sugar cane is first harvested annually and then ground in sugar mills. This produces the juice used for sugar production on the one hand and the bagasse on the other. This is the fibrous residue that remains after pressing. The fibres are then processed into pulp to produce sugar cane paper.

Is sugarcane paper a sustainable alternative?

Sugarcane paper is a by-product of sugar production and consists of industrial waste that is recycled and reused. No bleaching agents, optical brighteners or dyeing chemicals are added to the sugar cane. In addition, sugar cane is a very fast-growing plant. No trees have to be felled for its extraction. Bagasse also does not require any additional cultivation area and the production requires less energy than conventional paper. One disadvantage is that sugar cane only grows in tropical or subtropical climates and therefore has to be transported a long way to get to Germany. A container that comes by ship from South America to Germany emits about as much CO2 as a lorry travelling from Barcelona to Hamburg in Europe. However, 78% of sugar produced worldwide is made from sugar cane and ends up in our food.
